OK I am going to try to settle this once and for all :>). The thread size of the front hub nut is 7/8"-14, AKA 7/8NF. That is an inch or imperial dimension. The nut I am holding (well, not at the same time as I type), off a '73 96, measures 1.305" across the flats and is a perfect fit for my 1-5/16" SnapOn socket #LDH-422A. 1-5/16" = 1.3125", so there is .0075" or seven and one-half thousandths of an inch difference between the measured nut size and the nominal socket size, that ain't much. 33mm = 1.299" so a 33mm socket would probably fit my nut, as actual socket sizes run a tad larger than nominal. 34mm = 1.339 so a 34mm socket would definitely be looser than a 1-5/16" socket. So if a 1-5/16" socket is a poor fit on your nut, I think one of them is an oddball, probably the socket. Mine measures 1.332, about .020" larger than its nominal size.
