In addition to the very good advice that Eric mentioned, there is a rubber plug above the transmission nipple. Remove this plug, get a nice thick punch in there and strike with a hammer...

Yet your transmission may simply just pull right out, and when you place the transmission back, grease well inside the rear mount.

Personally, I don't think it is much easier, to remove as a unit. If there is not any tranny work to be done, it is easy to get at the transmission/engine bolts; elevate the unit, place wood beneath the tranny, and slowly life out, while watching the upper crossbar.
I find that the hoist/ the engine angle, etc makes a big difference in the simplicity. I use an engine tilt mechanism
