Back some years ago, alot of people went the other way. Their stroker engine blew up for the 3rd time and they switched over to the V-4 to improve reliability.
Never heard of someone going the other way. I guess it could be done. Is it worth it? you ask... You sure won't increase the car's value any. You'll also lose substantial HP. If you want to minimize cost, you may just want to drop another V-4 in there. There's tons around. I'm sure you could find a decent one for a couple hundred bucks.
BTW, I've got 3 V-4 VSaabs but keep thinking of getting a stroker. People that own them tell me they can be very fussy, blow up with no warning, and blow out quite a bit of smoke. Did you read Bruce Turk's latest article in Vintage Views about his 3rd or 4th engine rebuild???? Then you have the cost of operation- good 2 stroke oil is not cheap and gas mileage is not all that great. One good friend who's owned several keeps cautioning me and saying "they're fussy toys". I think I'll still try one out one of these days... (I did own a 93F for a number of years, but it doesn't count as it never got road-worthy.)
Just my two cents.
