Don't resort to that yet! The center grill is held on by 4 screws. The heads may be stripped but maybe vice grips could work to loosen them. The side pieces are the same. They're just short sheet metal screws. I had the same problem a couple of months ago and was able to get it apart. The mechanism pulls to the drivers side of the car. Once I had the grill pieces off, it was no problem to get pliers in there and pop open the hood, pulling it toward the driver's side.
Be patient and take your time. Keep us posted with progress.
