I wasn't implying that you rode the clutch.
Engaging near the top can mean that your clutch is worn. But adjusting will tell for sure.
Be advised- if you have to replace your clutch, know that recent aftermarket replacements have a KNOWN manufacturing problem with how the disc is riveted together. Jack Lawrence of MSS fame had a great presentation on that at the SOC a couple of years ago, including a handout of what to look for.
