Oh yes. I see the picture now. Common place. A patch could be welded on there very easily. Maybe had a bad leaking master cylinder or clutch master for a while, and that corroded it.
What matters, is the spring tower. As you look in through, in the first picture, you can see the gearbox, and the driveshaft. Right to the left of it is the corner of the spring tower. That needs to be solid! I had an 71 wagon that was pretty rust free, except the spring tower rear 'leg' that has the bolt that goes through to the bottom, was rusted through. Once I jacked the car up on the other side to rotate tires- I jacked up the whole side so I could swap front to rear, and the suspension collapsed due to that one rust point. So make sure its solid there.
