2 stroke erratic idle and stalling---Solved Posted by Tasman [Email] (#2476) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Tasman) on Tue, 22 Sep 2020 14:16:18 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Thanks to Don Wollum and his post from 2008 that perfectly described the problem and fix!
My 2-stroke with a recently rebuilt (Donney) engine idled poorly, stalled when braking and would not stall out when turning the idle screw all the way in. His diagnosis was that the middle carb float level was likely too high. A vernier gauge confirmed that it was close to 1/4 higher than specs. After replacing the float and washer the engine fired right up and immediately went to a constant idle. For a test, I adjusted the idle screw all the way in and it immediately stalled. Final test was hard braking at a few stop signs with no stall, no stuttering. Grateful for the help from Don's 2008 post. Also grateful for the Saabnet Website" search engine. Its 65 degrees in Austin and as soon as the rain lets up we are ready for a long Hill County drive!
