Hello;
I have all of my parts back from the machine shop and plan on reassembly of the top end of the engine over the upcoming long weekend. In anticipation of this project, I wanted to reach out for a little more advice before I begin since I am new to this work.
I want to make sure that I don't make any mistakes or forget something that should be done during reinstallation. I have the new gasket set. Do I need to add any sealants for these new head gaskets or can I just place them in their correct orientation and secure the heads following the proper tightening torques and sequence?
I am also concerned that I haven't confirmed if there are any clogs in the water jacket. There is still visible coolant in the circulation paths around the cylinders. Should I completely drain the water jacket? The radiator and most of the supply hoses have been removed. The only one still attached is the U shaped hose out of the bottom of the water pump - which may be acting as a P-trap to stop all of the coolant from draining. Or is there are plug somewhere that I need to remove?
I am sure these are basic questions but I haven't removed + replaced heads before so I would like to do this job correct the first time.
Thanks
Glenn
