The classic rallying stuff I went in was all on bitumen (sometimes very gravelly bitumen) so the car was not set up for offroad use (not yet anyway). The modifications I did make were:
A new set of yokahama tyres for the front (205 by 60 profile) ,
Saab 900 rear axel (for the wider track and beter shocks),
rear Koni gas shocks on the hardest setting,
second hand noname gas shocks on the front,
Battery in the boot for better balance,
single to twin carb conversion with K&N filter (Their is not much room for the twin carbs sitting on top of the 1972 style brake booster set up...I take the carbs off to top up my brake fluid!),
and a good complementary service and tune by my saab mechanic who also entered his 1977 EMS with only 80 000km on the clock! (Thanks to Kieth Mckracken for the service!)
and oh yeah a brand new open face helmet.
Most of the mods I did my self (twin carbs and stuff) the car did very well and even beat an aero turbo and the 1977 99 EMS on some stages (not the navigation though!)
If you want to find out more about Racing 99s try and find Mike Stone on this board because I understand he has raced a 99 for a few years
(I hope you don't mind Mike)
Good Luck
Keep us informed on how you go.
Justin.
