Re: 96's Wheelbase Width? Known as "Track" Posted by Andy [Email] (#759) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Andy) on Fri, 08 Sep 2000 08:32:51 In Reply to: 96's Wheelbase Width?, Dan [Profile/Gallery] , Wed, 06 Sep 2000 15:43:47 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The track width (across the axle left side to right side) on the 95/96/97 is 48". That is measured center to center on the tire tread. I'm not sure what the inside to inside width is, but I had trouble finding a tow dolly narrow enough when I had to move one. U-Haul's dolly was a bit too wide and they wouldn't rent me trailer to carry a 96 with no engine and transmission (probably about 1500 lbs?) without first buying a receiver hitch for my 3/4T camper special pickup. The heavy steel rear bumper, solidly bolted to the frame, that took the weight of a 112-foot long Cedar tree falling on it without bending (the pickup bed was demolished and left rear wheel was pushed a foot into the mud) was not strong enough to handle the load according to the U-Haul dealer. They just wanted to make more money by selling me the hitch.
