On USA left hand drive models it is under the hood on the side of the heater box just behind the brake booster. There should be a "Summer" and "Winter" label on the box. The lever opens and closes a pair of flaps that divert incoming air to the dashboard vents through the heater core in the winter position. Summer position allows the air to go straight to the dash vents.
