Hmmm, most of what you say David, certainly does make sense. My late 72 99 had a rear sway bar and 900 rear axle. I have been considering a front bar for a long time, but since I installed the rear bar I have not been so sure. After fitting the rear barI was very very pleased with the handling, the car turned in much better and felt much more confident in corners. The car did have a slight tendancy to oversteer if you did something silly like coast around a corner (on gravel) or stop accelerating mid corner.....but why would you???.....the rear bar will also cause the inside rear wheel to lift under brakes mid corner, but this does not affect the handling and is a real crowd pleaser.
You mentioned that the camber changes on the front end with suspension travel, but doesn't the camber change on all cars with double wishbone front ends?
What makes the 99 different to say a 900T that came out with front bars factory?
And surely you would be able to adjust the camber to suit the front bar??, ie add a little more negative camber?
Maybe a better suspension modification route would be to fit the rear bar and then fit stiffer and maybe lower springs in the front.
Oh well....maybe I will have to fit a front bar to end this argumetn once and for all....
Justin
ps....the 72 99 may be reparied :-) (eventually!)
