I've found that not many tire people understand what a tire size even is without a profile rating... they just don't understand that a tire can be fully round, they expect the second little number and look at me like I'm stupid when I ask them for that size. Just this morning I found a set of VW classic fat white-wall tires. I'm considering buying them, but I don't think that's what you're looking for. for my 99 when I was confronted with the problem I just bought some shelby/ronal alloys from a late 99/900 and put on some Pirelli P4000 Super touring... work wonderfully and help handling, but that doesn't help for the 95/96 because of those pesky fenders... I have 165R-15's on mine right now but they're cheap (JCPenny) and I'm about to get it running and replace those. Apparently 155r-15's are the original size... I found some Coopers at the local gas station, but I don't know if they're very good tires yet since I haven't looked into it any further.
Please let me know if you discover anything else,
Brendan
