Here are a couple more pics & some details:
http://www.saabturbo.com/saab/99/hmotor/hmotor.html
I was able recently to really inpsect a 99 8-valve H-installation. There is a lot more than just the dimples in the firewall. The main pulley is different than a 900, with only one sheave, same for the water pump. Pump itself is the same, but the pulley is different. Lastly, the alternator mounting bracket is altered to move the alternator forward, out of contact range with the brake booster. The alternator then gets a long shaft with a single sheave pulley. This install uses but one belt.
Rear motor mount brackets (what bolts to the motor) are the same for 900 8 valve 'H' motor, and thus, if you were to install a 16v, getting the 16v rubber mount brackets should work as well. You also will need a late (as in 1980) 99 gearbox front chain drive cover to mount up to a 5-speed if that is your desire.
And the plumbing for the heater & radiator is, ah, interesting...
If you want more info, or pics, sene me e-mail at the address above, but remove '.nospam'.
