99 water pump failure and EWP replacement questions

My '78 99t water pump seems to have developed a catastrophic coolant hemorrhage. I know there have been several threads on the board about the electric replacement, and I am considering doing this, but I am wondering what, if any, the drawbacks are?

I have found one site that carries a water pump repair kit - can anyone tell me whether this requires more special tools (aside from the SAAB pump removal/installation tool)?

I have read the instructions someone posted awhile ago, and I am wondering if there's any sacrifice in the effectiveness of the heat or anything like that?

Also, is there any danger of screwing something up when putting in the metal freeze pump in the lower cavity? I assume that once it's down in there, you've sort of hit the point of no return.

OK, one more question, does anyone have or know of someone who has the water pump removal tool that they'd be willing to lend or rent? None of the mechanics in my area have the tool (nor are any willing to do the job), so I find myself in a bit of a bind.
