So...
I got the water pump out and despite all of my fears, it came out without damaging either of the shafts - so I have decided to simply put the shaft back in with new seals instead of the electric conversion - now all I have to do is put it back together again - heh.
The question I have this time is one that the machinist raised when looking at the underside of the impeller - does the impeller actually seal agains the plastic assembly below it? The machinist commented that the metal on the underside of the impeller looked like it was a little rough.
I was under the impression that this was not critical, as none of the service manuals mention inspecting this area for wear - can anyone out there address this question?
thanks again to all for your advice,
Rowan
