Hi there
Yeah, I have done the battery move on two 99s and it is farily straightforward. With the 3 door you should have enough room under the floor board for the battery, but you will have to buy a european style low profile battery. If you really want to make it simple, buy one of the gell cell batteries, they are very small and relatively light. Infact for the time and effort, it may be worth replacing the original battery with a gell cell under the bonett. The gell cell will still be several kgs lighter and you wont' have to worry about the cabling.
The biggest problem I found with mountining the battery in the rear was with trying to decide where to drill the hole in the firewall (and trying to drill that damm hole!!
Hunt around for th heavey duty cabling, some stero shops may have it a little cheaper. I always sheath the power cable in the split convoluted tubing for a little extra protection. Car HiFi shops also sell some very nice battery terminals and distributers that don't require the use of heavy duty crimpers.
The first time I moved the battery to the boot in my 99T 5 door I also added a key operated battery kill switch for a little extra piece of mind.
What else do you want to know?
