I've done this with ok results....it all depends on how clean your tank is.
I roto-rooter the line by using mig-wire(any other stiff wire will work). I make a small loop at the end which will go in the line. It helps to keep the line from snagging or rupturing the line as it goes around corners. I start snaking the wire in the fuel line from the mechanical fuel pump back to the gas tank. If it hits a snag, I attach a drill (cordless is easier to use) to the line and rotate it and push it. If the line will not open up, at least you know where the problem is by marking the wire and pulling it out. By the way, THIS SHOULD BE DONE WITH THE GAS TANK EMPTY or you will get a lot of gas all over the place. The drain hole for the gas tank is under the tank. I then roto-rooter the whole line after the line is clear. I have noticed that the clog on all my vSAAB(2 sonetts and a 96) was right at the bend(3-4 inches) of the line right out of the tank. This worked very well in my 96 which had sat for 10 years(the tank was clean thou). I have driven my 96 15k miles and from LA to NYC with no fuel problems. After you clear the line, put a gallon of gas and flush the line. If there is still a lot of particles, clean your tank at a radiator shop (about $100). A good radiator shop will boil it out until all the gunk and rust is gone. The gas tank on my 96 had to be boiled out twice it was soo bad. Don't get the tank lined unless it needs it. I have heard the liner comes off and could clog the line. Once you get the tank back, install it asap as it is raw metal inside and will begin to rust.

good luck
-Ernesto
