Uh oh, what have I done to the hydraulic clutch . . . Posted by TimC [Email] (#3216) [Profile/Gallery] (more from TimC) on Tue, 13 Aug 2002 14:40:19 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I decided that since the cap on the clutch slave cyl on the '67 96. was rusted in place, that the fluid was probably old and ripe for changing. So I grabed the channel-locks and (carefully) got the cap off. I then blissfully grabbed a bottle of DOT3 fluid and proceded to bleed the system out. Got about a pint through the system until the all the wretched stuff was out and the fluid ran clear.
Every thing went well except when I looked in the bottle I used to drain the fluid. The stuff that came out didn't mix with the DOT3 and sat on top in a separate layer!! I checked in the owners manual and (which I should have done FIRST) and it said to use SAE 70 fluid or something like that. What the heck is that stuff? Never heard of it. Any ideas if I trashed my clutch hydraulic system by putting in the DOT3?? Thanks for any replies.
