Thanks for the input guys.
I understand the rarity value of the 99t. I do. However, this is the car I drive every day. It already has about 300,000 km on it - there's probably not that much left of it that is original! I am not about to radically change the look of the car, but my needs are for a car (with character, that's why I choose to drive Saabs!) that is dependable and relatively easy to fix when the time comes. Where I live in Canada, the closest Saab dealer is 600km away, so when it comes time to fix things, the car itself is not the only rarity. I'm still looking for a couple of hubcaps for my Inca wheels (missing one since I bought the car 5 or 6 years ago). As in Australia, post '78 99s are a rarity indeed (i.e. I have never even heard of one in N.America).
Also, as far as the motor goes, I was told by the specialty Saab garage (600km from my place) that a new cylinder head for the B motor would be almost impossible to find, should the head ever develop a crack (which apparently isn't all that uncommon - correct me if I'm wrong.) As an added bonus, in taking out my tranny, I realised that I have a crack in my exhaust manifold. Anybody have one of those just sitting around?
Tom, sorry but the tranny carcass that I have is already a 5-speed, otherwise you could have it.
In sum, what I'm shooting for is the style of the 99t with a modern, dependable, driveable, easily repairable car and that's where I was heading with the H motor. It was never in the plan to put in more that 300 hp. (just kidding ;-) ~180hp would be nice though!
