Sounds like your heater is turned on all the time. Does the heater knob (the one in the middle) turn very easily? Normally, it should have some resistance when you turn it. If so, it could be that the knob is no longer operating the valve at the heater core anymore. This is not an uncommon problem: the cable/housing that connects the two often breaks loose from its anchor behind the control panel. Until you are able to fix it, you can still operate the valve from under the hood if you need to.
I can't think of anything else that would cause what you describe.
