I live in Sacramento and am shopping for my first Saab. I was thinking about a '99 9.3 but have recently decided I don't want to make car payments, and should save my money and get something a little older that I can pay cash for.

How risky is it, repair-wise, to buy a seven or eight year old 900? What things should I avoid/watch out for? How many miles are too many?

Also, I am confused about what I should pay. The various price guides I've been looking at suggest much lower prices than what B&B and Family Motors in Sonoma are asking for their cars - like about a 30% difference. I want to get a good price. Any insights into this?

The "Buying a Used Saab" page on Saabnet was done in 1995 and could stand to be updated......
