October 18, 2003 - FALL WINE TOUR - Once again, we will gear up the Santa Cruz Mountains to drive the twisting lanes, view the ocean and bay vistas, sample the local flora and fauna, and look at each others' cars as we motor to local wineries. This event has been very popular with the club and we have only ever lost 6 cars (temporarily) on the mountain roads. We will be ending the ride at SILVER MOUNTAIN VINEYARDS for a private party behind the gates. (their website (posted in Past Events below) was stolen by a Russian criminal ring but I will check and link to their new address...which is http://www.silvermtnvineyards.com ) Last year, there were cases of SMV wine being stuffed into hatches and rear seats because of the award winning reds.
This has been a very popular event where we actually get to drive. We will end up again at the Silver Mountain Vineyards for lunch and a tour of the crush. We will meet at a new location that will accommodate more cars: the parking lot on the SouthWest corner of Page Mill Road and El Camino (route 82) in the heart of Palo Alto. There is a Page Mill exit from both 101 (the Oregon Exprswy) and 280. The plan is to be there between 10 and no later than 10:30AM. We will be able to group all together as there is ample parking. (We’ve outgrown Woodside). There are breakfast spots nearby for the crowd (you know who you are Dan et al) that enjoys catching a bite first.
We will tour Los Altos Hills ending up at Ridge Winery for intense reds and intense views of the Bays. This is top down cruising at its best. We will climb up the Hill by way of Steven’s Creek to Silver Mountain for lunch and viewing cars (with maybe a quickie at the Burrell School Winery first).
The Club will provide lunch so it really will help to get some kind of headcount. Please RSVP to either President Roger or President Cliff. If you have special diet considerations, please pack in your own. We already have responses from the posting on the web and expect our usual fun crowd of Saabers from all over the region. I am wondering where all those vintage vehicle club members are… stuck in the back yard up on blocks?? Let’s see some blue clouds of collectable smoke in addition to high tech machines that are 2Fast for me. Bring parts to sell, family and friends, bring yourselves and your Saabs: this will be fun.
The club will provide lunch so we will need a head count to make sure we have enough. Please RSVP. As this will be harvest, they will be busy busy but - owner Jerry has graciously offered to arrange a Saturday. He guarantees that the crush will be in full swing and will add that to a short show and tell.
