President Cliff has a request: will someone contact him at President Cliff and help by bringing an ice chest full of ice??? My Sonett II V4 is totally incapable of carrying much more than me and a passenger.
Also – if you (or your kids) have walky-talkies, please bring them. Cliff and I always have a set for the front and back of the caravan but last time in the hills we lost the middle of the group. Damien had one last time but he was forever up front on the tail of the leader. (PS: this is not a fast trip but a scenic and challenging windy way). We will be on channel 5 if you need your kid to set it…
We have over 20 cars signed up with lots of family riding shotgun for this last tour of the season. For those of you doing Mapquest for the starting point, type in 3000 El Camino Real / Palo Alto for an address. This is the massive Palo Alto Square parking lot: we will gather in the section closest to Page Mill Road. Look for the Saabs. If you haven’t let us know if you’re coming we will carry some extra food but when we get up in the hills, directions to the nearest deli require a GPS unit. (In reality, the mountain store on Summit Rd is not that far away from the vineyard).
Any last minute changes, hints, or other thoughts will be posted on our web at http://www.bayareasaabclub.com but this should do it. Thanks for checking on helping with the ice and communications.
The 2003 Saab Club Wine Tour is scheduled for October 18, Saturday. This has been a very popular event where we actually get to drive. We will end up again at the Silver Mountain Vineyards for lunch and a tour of the crush. We will meet at a new location that will accommodate more cars: the parking lot on the SouthWest corner of Page Mill Road and El Camino (route 82) in the heart of Palo Alto. There is a Page Mill exit from both 101 and 280. The plan is to be there between 10 and no later than 10:30AM. We will be able to group all together as there is ample parking. (We’ve outgrown Woodside). There are breakfast spots nearby for the crowd (you know who you are Dan et al) that enjoys catching a bite first.
We will tour Los Altos Hills ending up at Ridge Winery for intense reds and intense views of the Bays. This is top down cruising at its best. We will climb up the Hill by way of Steven’s Creek to Silver Mountain http://www.silvermtnvineyards.com for lunch and viewing cars (with maybe a quickie at the Burrell School Winery first).
The Club will provide lunch so it really will help to get some kind of headcount. Please RSVP to either President Roger or President Cliff. If you have special diet considerations, please pack in your own. We already have responses from the posting on the web and expect our usual fun crowd of Saabers from all over the region. I am wondering where all those vintage vehicle club members are… stuck in the back yard up on blocks?? Let’s see some blue clouds of collectable smoke in addition to high tech machines that are 2Fast for me. Bring parts to sell, family and friends, bring yourselves and your Saabs: this will be fun.
We hope to see you soon
President Roger W
