Figured I have nothing to loose, so I took my oscillating tool, opened up the area of the mechanism (inside of the door) and removed the broken part. the part that I sawed off can be glued back in place.

the long arm in the pic is the one that broke. I plan to 3d print the end of the arm, and sleeve it over the broken stub.
