Well, I finally got this problem fixed. Brought it in to my indie and found out the oil pan screen and pickup tube was blocked by sludge! I was told its important to do oil changes at 3000-3500 mileage intervals. Never had this problem with my 89... I think the screen was coarser on the classic. I have 168,000 on that one and never a problem. I change the oil around every 5000 miles. The 97 has only 80000, although I bought it at 50,000. Who knows, maybe the original owner changed the oil 3 times in 50,000! Anyway, the oil pan screen cleaning was expensive ($450 labor) since it is a lot of work to get the pan off. Just thought I'd give you guys an update. Now you have something else to look at.
Now the car goes in Monday for a new manual tranny. Luckily its covered by an extended warranty... Will it ever end???
