Having used Mobil 1 for a couple decades, it appears that some marketing genius just added "tag lines" to each Mobil 1 vicosity grade. For example Mobil 1 10W-30 is "Higher-Mileage Vehicle Formula". There is only one Mobil 1 10W-30, not a seperate 10W-30 for higher-mileage vehicles and a 10w-30 for low mileage vehicles. If you recall, in the early 1980's Mobil 1 had just two vicousity grades, 5W-30 and 15W-50. When Mobil 1 came out with a 10W-30 I called the Mobil 1 technical service people and was told that the 10W-30 was introduced because some many vehicle manufactures recommended 10W-30 but not 5W-30. Therefore, Mobil 1 changed the 5W-30 formula just enough to get a 10W-30 rating. In fact if you looked at the Mobil 1 data sheets at that time, the 5W-30 formula was at the higher limit of the vicosity scale for a 5-weight and the 10W-30 formula was at the low limit of the 10-weight specs. Although Mobil 1 has been reformulated a couple times, the new "tag lines" are merely marketing hype to differentiate the serveral viscosity grades now available in Mobil 1, not a new definition for the usefulness of the oils.
