short belt -- risk of jumping?

So I went out and got all the parts I needed to perform a short belt mod -- eEuroparts idler pulley, 970K6 serpentine belt, ratchet arm to pull the tensioner. Went in to Mezian Motors in Los Angeles to get a tranny mount replaced, and Harry Mezian advised against doing the short belt mod. Said something about at high speed, the belt would flap across the top and possibly jump out of the grooves? Seemed to make sense to me, but what do I know?
Just thought I'd bounce the idea off this community. Seems like plenty of people are happy with this configuration, but it's always good to have more info rather than less.
