This is an update on the "Pulsing" post of two or three days ago. If you want to be a huge help, you can go back and read those and their answers... you will have all the background you need.

I have come to the conclusion that Den was right and I believe the surging sound my engine is making at very low first and reverse is due to the transmission distributing the load unevenly. Perhaps a little more about my auto transmissions quirks:

It shifts wonderfully... I have no complaints there. However, there is a slight delay in power in addition to a shudder when I shift from park or neutral to drive or reverse. In other words, the only weirdness I ever see is at a very low speed in first gear or at a very low speed in reverse.

I tried backing up with and without my a/c on but that made little difference. My idle seems somewhat erratic and at first and reverse, my engine runs anywhere between 1100 and 1400... it is no longer consistent at the same low speeds. Anything above second gear and my car behaves like new.

So here are my new questions:

First of all, is there any chance this is caused by my IAC opening and closing spontaneously at low engine speeds? I have cleaned it several times... if this is it, new IAC is probably the solution, right?

Secondly and more importantly, if this is my trans distributing the load unevenly, what would be the internal cause and are there any simple troubleshooting steps? I have heard about this lubeguard stuff as a trans additive... the only one approved to run in saab transmissions... anyone know anything about it? Also, do you think there is any chance mobil 1 ATF will cure this problem or even an auto-rx treatment?
