Thank you everyone for your help. Something I neglected to mention in my original post is that I did replace the oil pressure "switch", which I have been calling the oil pressure "sensor". That is where the troubleshooting began. After getting that replaced, then I noticed the oil pressure light on semi-regularly at low rpm's. Then I did a engine flush (thin gum-out can stuff), and noticed a good amount of "sludge chunks" coming out with the oil. I pulled the valve cover, sludge, cleaned it up. re-torqued head bolts, started running auto-rx. Now, as mentioned, I only OCCASSIONALY see the oil pressure light after a long run when everything is heated up and am returning to idle rpm's.
I believe everything is getting better, but the car was sure bought with some problems. it doesn't use oil, and timing chain seems to be ok (it is at 13mm, however, so a bit stretched). The crud that was in the engine may have scored the reducer valve. I am hoping that replacing it will improve my situation. Yes, it may be a sign of bigger things, but for what the car is worth I will be quite happy to do the little things I can to keep it running as best I can without pulling the engine and really going after everything inside.
Thanks again for all the help. this board is great!
