Hey all,

If someone could help me out or point me to relevant archive posts, it would be appreciated:

1996 900SEt, 186k miles, A/C doesn't work. Last summer friend of my Dad's charged system, and it worked for about 20 min. I wasn't in town long enough for him to get parts, so I put it on back burner.

Took it to indy shop yesterday (not Saab Specialist, but work on a few). Owner/Mech diagnosed problem as the Low Pressure line corroded through at compressor mount and leaking. Said it would be $425 parts, labor and refill to fix that, and then check for additional leaks. And a week to get special order parts from the local dealer, as he couldn't find them aftermarket. He also said that the system is completely discharged right now.

I would like to replace this line myself, then have the mechanic fill and check the system, and go from there. The manual doesn't really cover a/c repair. I checked out Eeuroparts diagram for what I needed - so here's the questions:

Looks like I need hose #5, and one O-ring. Is there another O-ring at the non-compressor end that I need? Looks like it may be a compression fitting into the next line in the chain, so I wouldn't need an o-ring there, correct?

Any recommendations regarding Saab OEM hose at $125, vs. CRP hose at $72? I'm leaning toward the CRP hose, esp considering that the a/c may or may not work once this line is replaced.

Also, mech said to put compressor oil on all o-rings and threads - Eeuroparts has R134a Ester Oil listed - is this what i need? Is this something I can get at Wally world (Wisc regulates freon tightly - I can't buy recharge kits at walmart, so does it follow that I won't be able to buy the oil? - for that matter, can I even have a mail-order place ship it to WI?)

Do I need to wrap the threads in Teflon tape or anything like that? Or just tighten them securely?

Final Question: Is there special tricks or advice I should be aware of during this process, and are there any parts I will need other than the line and O-ring?

Thanks for the help!
