Poor quality thermostat gasket (+)

Two years ago, about 30k miles, I replaced the thermostat in my 1998 NG900. I got it from eEuroparts, along with a new gasket. When installing the gasket at the time, two years ago, I thought it looked cheap, much worse than the used OEM gasket that was there before. I installed the new gasket nevertheless.
I replace the thermostat every other coolant change as a matter of course. Yesterday I was changing coolant in my 1998 NG900. I took out the thermostat just to check it over. I was unhappy to see the gasket I installed two years ago turned into some kind of black goo. It was completely destroyed! I had a hard time cleaning the goo out, too. Obviously the rubber it was made of was of poor quality and incompatible with SAAB coolant. I use genuine SAAB coolant, BTW.
Fortunately, I had the old gasket in the trunk. It still looked excellent, so I reinstalled thermostat using this old gasket that I took off two years ago. Warning to anyone replacing a thermostat: do not use the cheap Scantech gasket. You are better off keeping the original gasket, as that one is of very high quality and will last a very long time. Or buy a new OEM gasket.
