The material in the deposits is formed from filtered oil. The oil filter is not the problem at all. K&N is a good filter, over build and over priced perhaps as well.
At those miles I would use M1 0W40 or M1 Truck and SUV 5W40. You will probably find the engine smoother and quieter, and perhaps better MPGs as well.
I have no explanation for the mess that the B12 released. It is a very agressive solvent mix. I would remove the valve cover and look to see what deposits might remain.
Does your low oil lamp come one before you crank the engine. If not, the low pressure switch is probably bad and you can't see a low oil situation. If there is low pressure, one cause could be the oil pressure relief valve. It is on the front corner of the timing cover pointing down and eazy to access from under the vehicle. You can see if the piston/spring is stuck.
