Might be dumb question, but why do you have to take out the spark plugs?
Did you see in haynes that they talk about 3 stages of tightening?
State 1= 44ft/lbs
Stage 2= 59lbs
Satge 3= 90 degree turn.
Taliaferro states what you mentioned. I would tend to go with Taliaferro. I look forward to what others have to say.
I remember reading that someone did have trouble getting a full 90 degrees turn on the bolt(reverse torque(star)). I remember the reply was to just put a 4 foot pipe on the wrench.
This would be a great piece for the DIY site(pictures etc) because so many seem to need it.
