Hi leaking V6 valve cover owners,
See my other posts re V6 3.0L top rebuild. It's been running fine but with leaky valve covers so decided to do something about it. Also water leak - I think at water pipe from thermostat - see my next post. Otherwise smooth power - great drive - eats motorways!

Anyone ever had an engine fire from oil on the manifolds?

Heard a story about someone running an old straight 6 Marcos also had leaky valve cover with the following solution:

Cover head mating surfaces with 1mm nitrile rubber. The rubber can be bonded to the head and it makes a good surface to mate the cover gasket against. I've sourced the rubber and I'm going to give it a try.

Read the posts about Permatex #1, #2, Hylomar blue etc etc and I'm quite confused. I used Hylomar blue when fitting the covers, at the corners recommended in the engine manual, but obviously without success.

What I want is a high strength, oil and heat resitant adhesive to bond the nitrile rubber to the head (doesn't need to come off again, as if I ever get to that stage the heads wil be skimmed again). RECOMMENDATIONS PLEASE (at the moment I'm going to go with Hylomar as I have no other idea.

I will make a stencil for the cover surface and cut it out from the rubber and stick it on (will degrease thoroughly first). Then apply the cover plus gasket plus a little bit of Hylomar in key points like corners.

I will also make small discs with a hole in for under the cover bolt "o" rings.

Finally, can you get Permatex products in the UK? If so where?
