If you are at around 125,000 miles, then all I can say is I feel your pain. I put money into every corner of the car around that milage, and reasoned that NOW is precisley the time to keep it for the reason that all the parts that will fail (even in a boxter hint hint), have just been replace and they should be done maybe once in the life of the car...like a fuel pump, or like your shocks or muffler or or or...these all seemed to hit in one year for me, then looking at my records, it seems that the next year had only oil changes!

So hopefully you are over the hump. Just tell your car that it is done for a while and not to ask for anything for christmas, it has to earn its keep for the next couple years (I think it will).

Having said that, dare I suggest that you NOT put in a used fuel pump? I mean it's a wear item that will die after 150k miles or so, so why start with a used one (I know you've spent a lot already). Still you will have to pay (or do) labor twice if the used one doesn't hold out for long (always cheaper to do it right the first time). That doesn't mean you need to pay $650 either. eeuroparts.com has a pump for $400 and free shipping. Can you DIY this? Be careful around gas, but ask here for help and you shall receive.
