No problem on disconnecting on a 1995 model. On 1996 models (OBDII) you will get a constant check engine light. No problem on 1995 (OBDI). I Have had mine disconnected for quite awhile with no problem. I disconnected it b/c I didn't like the huge drain on the battery at startup on cold mornings when the pump kicks in. I don't think there is any problem posed to the catalytic converter. It will be less effective in operation at cold start, so you'll spew more emissions into the environment for the first couple minutes of running the engine, if that bothers you.
