I4 or V6, Maintenance Records are Key...

I know many people here hate the V6 but there's a lot of amplification via parroting with regards to the problems they have. If you get it, change the belt and related pulleys/tensioner and you are good for 60K with the upgraded hardware (it's never the belt that breaks, the pulleys freeze, then the belt breaks). You are also well advised to do the water pump, thermostat and cam seals at the same time. It's not a bad DIY job for someone competent but it's not for someone that considers changing oil a major accomplishment. As a relevant aside, the reputation of the V6 works in your favor when buying. You can likely negotiate a price that will pay for all of the upfront maintenance investment thet you may want to make upon purchase, and then some.
The 4 cyl engines have an awful lot of lubrication-related failures due to sludging which is difficult to fully assess w/o dropping the pan. Turbos are probably better overall because owner awareness and follow-through with maintenance is generally higher. Insist on oil change records or walk away.
Just another opinion; some will agree, some won't. In the interest of fair disclosure, I own both V6 and 4 cyl cars. I like the V6 a lot.
