Long term engine issues

I've been living with an engine that burns oil in my 97 NA 2.3 900 for almost two years now. I'm not sure if it was sludge or improper oil filling from greasemonkey that did it, in combonation with a faulty oil pressure light, but at any rate the engine oil areas were cleaned and it was diagnosed with scored cylinder walls by a very competent saab mechanic. The car only has 85k on it, so i've been told to simply keep driving the car while keeping an eye on the oil. No other issues to speak of until my CEL prompted a new O2 sensor. After another CEL it turns out that the oil that the engine is burning is depositing itself onto the O2 sensor, causing the CEL. What should I expect the oil deposition, and the resulting crappy sensor to do to my engine? Would it be worthwhile to somehow get rid of the sensor? I live in CO, so no emissions tests here in the mountains, but i don't feel great about putting ~2 quarts/1000miles into the atmosphere. Suggestions??? Thanks
