As I understand, the turbo models do not have cam sensors (or hall effect sensor). On the NA, this comes through the distributor. I was troubleshooting mine recently, and the car can run w/o it. To my knowledge it must provide secondary info to supplement the crank shaft sensor. Now this sensor is critical toward the engine running. It tells the ECU that the engine is turing, so send fuel, run the injectors, etc. This has been known to fail, and in fact I and others (Richard, namely) have had trouble with these. But both of ours failed "cold", and was intermittent. It is my understanding that they more commonly fail "hot" though, so it is certainly a possibility in your case. One big clue is that this failing does NOT send a CEL, because it simply thinks the engine is not on... SO, did you get a CEL? You can do a ohm measurement on the sensor (it is located on the front of the block near the flywheel, but the connector where you can measure is up near the fuel rail ... a blue connector). I believe the turbo model should read in at 540 ohms -+ 40. Just measure across the 2 leads.
DId you get the car towed home? Any other info? To check for fuel pump operation, see recent posts (can search for correct threads using my name as search). You need to "hotwire" the fuel pump fuse, then listen for gushing fuel around the fuel rail. If this works, not the pump. But could also be fuel pump relay. Previous posts will help you take approaches to test for the following items: fuel pump, fuel pump relay, main relay, crank sensor (or CKP sensor or CPS).
I am not an expert, but just happen to have needed to sort a lot of this out recently myself. Others would have more advice on what other possibilities to check out. Again, my case was a cold start issue ... you dying in the middle of running is different, but could be some of the same things that need checking.
