I've had this project car since friday, it's been a ton of fun so far :) White 1995 900s convertible. It's cleaning up nicely.
Anyway, last night about 15 miles from home my wife and I are out shopping for a new car stereo (whats a car with out music) we noticed the key was a little sticky in the lock. So being the smart guy I am I started twisting the key through the different positions to loosen it up. Well it locks in the deadbolt position and stays there!
Bought some wd40 to flush it out, no luck. I call home and have my son do a search of SAABNET, no luck. I end up peeling the rear window glass off the top enough to get my arm in and unlock the back seat, while my wife from the trunk pushed the seat forward. good think I didn't drop the keys! Then I crawl in through the trunk, TIGHT SQUEEZE! Then I can roll the windows down and the top so my wife can get in!!! Doors still locked.
Once home I found that I can see the bolt that holds the drivers side door handle to the door by looking down where the window retracts into the door. 13mm wrench does the trick and I can get the door handle out half way. Turning it counter clock wise as far as I can at one point the electric door locks fire and I can get the doors open!!!!
Door panel off, unhook the rods, take the clip off the switch at the bottom of the door handle and pull the handle out of the car. After taking the door handle apart I find that the problem started when the little spring behind the key door flap came out and into the lock. After taking that out the key still would not turn the lock.
Take the clip off the back of the lock and slide the parts apart I find the tumblers or whatever you call them on the lock are so worn (from the key) that they no longer clear the barrel of the lock. Removed each and filed them flat again, replaced them in the proper spots. Then I used my dremel to file the outsides of the tumblers (once back in the barrel) even again and tested it in the barrel of the lock. Lock working fine now. Just have to reinstall.
The back window of the convertible top needed gluing on two sides when I got the car. Good think I hadn't glued it yet. I cant imagine if the car had been a regular hard top and not a convertible! Guess breaking the window would be the only option.
Hope this helps some other poor fool ;)
