Hi guys, I hope you have some good tips for this headeache I have.
My darling 1997 900 SET is really driving me crazy. Here is the story (one of the many so far): About a year ago, shortly after I bought the car (Km 125K) and started reading this board I discovered the notorious coolant leak from the head gasket in the driver side front corner of the head (near #10 bolt). Since I used to be a car mechanic and I have a 5 bay garage available where to work, I decided to do the head gasket, valve seals, valve lapping, water pump, short belt mod and pulley. The idea was that after such mid life work the engine was supposed to be ok for years. WRONG! Today I discovered that the coolant leak is back in the same spot.
When I did the job I found the bolts very loose. I did the job with care and attention to details and I lubricated the bolts and torqued the head to the spec. indicated in the new gasket I bought from eEuroparts (60Nm, 80Nm and 90 deg. turn). I choose this sequence as it is more conservative than the one in the 2 Saab bulletins regarding tightening/re-tightening torques (40, 60 and 90deg). I am not sure what bolts I have (probably the ones without washers) and if the head was re-torqued before.
What has gone wrong? What should I do next?
1 -Re-torque with old bolts.
2 -Re-torque with new set of bolts.
3 -Take the head out again and get it machined.
4 –If I need new bolts which ones and where from.
Thanks for the advice
Cheers
Giovanni
