Having just finished this past weekend upgrading my suspesion with B&G springs and Bilstein HDs I can offer the following advice:
Rotors?- Honestly when I had that problem I was changing them so I took the hammer to them until they broke loose. I would try the rubber mallet again. It is true you don't need to take the rotors off. However, you just need to be more careful while manhandling the strut after removal thats all. PS the sleeve nut on the OEM inserts is a bitch unless you have a big vise and a big pipe wrench. Like DIP I took them to a local garage to loosen them. Good luck.
Retaining screws- my dad ended up drilling out the posts. If you take your time and are carefull the screw metal is very soft and should come out easily as with any drilling you chance damaging the threads. Good luck!

PS the end result of the suspension upgrade is well worth it. I should have done it 4 yrs ago.
