Changing the A/C clutch

It seems the clutch in my A/C Compressor has failed. The pulley is seized and therefore it threw the belt. I presume that there isn't a whole lot of clearance in side the clutch, so it probably wouldn't have taken much (one broken spring?) to foul up the works.
BTW - My car got hit head-on in a parking lot last summer and the front bumper got knocked just enough out of whack that I was unable to reuse the plastic undercarriage guards. Removing these panels left the compressor exposed to the elements and road salts, so perhaps corrosion was the culprit in this case.
QUESTION: If I can salvage an A/C clutch from another compressor, can I swap it out for the bad one? I have a tool made specifically to pull the clutch on a "typical" GM A/C compressor, I just wanted to know if I am in for any surprises with this pre-GM job.
Thanks.
