Re: SAAB 9-3 SPY PHOTO is a FAKE FOLKS! While I can't say I'd agree with all of Coolknight's assumptions, I'd agree the photo is lilkely not an accurate depiction of the "final", new 9-3 design. At least, I hope not, although the addition of a 4-door sedan with trunk seems a certain addition to the 9-3 line. And there's nothing wrong with that. SAAB feels, with good reason, that they are losing a significant number of sales, especially in the USA, without a traditional 4-door sedan, because Americans are just not buying hatchbacks. We don't even buy them in econo-box cars, let alone more upscale makes such as SAAB. As someone pointed out last week, Honda has dropped the hatch on the all new Civic for the 2001 US Models. For me, the hatch utility and the unique SAAB silhouette are a big part of what has kept SAAB from being a "cookie cutter" car like others in its class. Like everyone else on the board, I hope they never lose that unique SAAB look. The spy photo makes for some good discussion and speculation but, in the end, we'll all just have to patiently wait for the final design to emerge, and hope for the best.
This is a link to the forum for a UK SAAB site called "The SAAB Pages", similar to the the site Scott runs for us here in the USA. In response to seeing the spy photo in Auto Express (a UK publication), someone had the clever idea, "Why not ask SAAB?". This is the the reply that SAAB sent back.
