I noticed that, too. It seems like the selling point is that the "spyder" is easy to install and remove; it's not designed to stay on the wheel all the time.
The special hub is more or less permanently bolted to the wheel, then when the roads get slick, you pull over, get out and attach (they say quickly) the "traction arms". Same general idea as chains, they are just claiming to eliminate most of the hassle of installing chains. Which isn't neccesarily a bad thing.
I see the firm is based out of my old hometown, Albuquerque. Ahhh, green chile. I'm headed there the end of this week.
