OK your roll thoughts are pretty much right on. The only point is that overall roll can be reduced with stiffer sway bars front and rear, it is the roll moment distribution (front-rear) that is hard to tune and maintain when the car has a flexible chassis. One of the questions you might want to ask is why do you want less roll? Drive a 5 series BMW and it will roll quite a bit yet still handle superbly.
Your ride thoughts are pretty good as well. Again the main problem here is probably friction and chassis rigidity. Softer springs may help ride, but will hurt roll, handling, and max pothole loads. You are probably better off leaving them alone since friction levels are quite high on that vehicle and the poor ride probably comes more from the friction than the spring rate. Softer tires would help also ride, but hurt handling...
Stiffer chassis would be a great thing. I am not familiar with Abbott's brace, but I doubt it would hurt anything. Stiffer roll bars would reduce roll, but will hurt one wheel ride events (potholes etc) Again the question has to be asked why is less roll wanted?
Saab did a good job with what they had to work with. The next gen chassis will be stiffer, but also much more "GM'ed" up...
