Certainly, I'll agree with you. The 9-3 is not a BMW and never will be. That's not why I bought one, though.
Camry and Accord are very boring to drive, IMO. The steering is light, easy and simple. The rides are buttery smooth. But they aren't fun. A 9-3 is fun. Not fun in a refined way like a BMW, but fun in a primitive and characterful (I agree, MJM) sort of way.
I don't think that Toyota and Honda have rough idles or torque steer, eitehr!
