If it were still the pre-GM days of Saab, I would think that the Saab people were being extremely shrewd. By merely threatening to do away with the hatchback, they help insure that hatchback lovers (myself included) will run out and buy one before they are discontinued.
However, since GM is now running things, I think they are just too ignorant to realize that a huge portion of Saab's most loyal and diehard customer base (myself included) will drop them like a rock if they drop the hatchback from the lineup.
If anyone from GM/Saab reads this bulletin board: Do you actually believe that somehow you will sell more cars if you do away with the hatchback? If Saab's market researchers would care to conduct a focus group on this issue here in the Boston area (where you can't swing a dead cat without hitting a Saab), I'm sure we Saabnetters could round up a crew to participate (myself included).
