DI Unit?

Lately my 99 9.3 HOT, which usually goes like a rocket, has felt a little "held back", even when accelerating in the middle of its power band at high RPM. The Tech 2 does not detect any malfunction and my mechanic's best guess is a defective DI unit ($ 300 and apparently unlikely to fail before 50K, while mine has just reached 20K)
Can anybody give me a word of advice?
Thanks,
MM
